A creative home for faces and stories that reflect the diversity of today’s world.

Mission

Live & In Color is a creative incubator for new plays and musicals bound for commercial success, with a core mission of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the theater industry—on and off stage, and at every level of creative and business touchpoint.

Vision

We envision a new American Theatre with diversity and inclusion interwoven into its fabric. True representation will influence and inform how it feels to be within our buildings, businesses and communities. From a BIPOC actor no longer needing to edit themselves or codeswitch to accommodate others in the room, to a transgender director has who doesn’t have to justify themselves or their personal choices, to an autistic stage manager feeling supported and understood—we will create space and support all to feel part of our family. When people from differing perspectives and backgrounds can finally come together bravely and safely, we will then be operating from a place of empathetic inclusion where all are welcome and supported.

What We Do

Live & In Color centers around an annual two-week retreat at The Bingham Camp in Salem, CT. Each season, participants work on the development of a new musical and a new play. In addition, there are opportunities for readings and exploration of other work while on-site. It culminates in a presentation to an invited audience of local supporters, national art advocates and other professionals.

Under the artistic direction of Devanand Janki, the creative environment is collaborative and supportive, with the ultimate goal of creating high-quality work that has potential to be produced commercially so its message can reach larger audiences.

The quietude of the countryside around The Bingham Camp offers the opportunity for participants to work without the interruption and distraction of a city. All artists receive a stipend plus housing and meals.
